___ 2017 year INSTITUTE FOR PLANT BIOTEHNOLOGY The institute's main focus is teaching and research in the area of plant breeding and biotechnology. lt covers field crops product production, horticulture and floricuiture, fruit production, viticulture and enology, plant genetics and selection, and agro-meteorology. The study programs and research activities target different technologies for production of: field crops, tobacco, fruits, breeding vegetables, flowers, grape and wine, and their interaction with the environment, emphasizing the agro-climatic factors and biodiversity. Plant genetics focuses on the genetic variation of horticultural and agricultural crops, and how new characteristics or features can be improved by plant breeding. These issues are of great strategic importance and can help strengthen and develop the industry’s long-term competitiveness.
STUDY PROGRAMMES Undergraduate studies (8 semesters) Field crop production Students enrolled in this study program develop understanding and knowledge in the field crops production technology, physiology, modern agro-technical practices, plant protection, genetics and breeding and the bases of their processing. Vegetable and flower production The main objective of the study program is to provide students with theoretical and practical skills in the production of vegetables, flowers and decorative plants, with a professional approach in the use of natural resources and protection of the environment. Fruit production and viticulture Upon the completion of this study program, students are provided with scientific and technological knowledge in the fields of fruit science and viticulture, abilities to organize, manage and control the process of production. Graduate students are prepared for a career in local and commercial production of fruits and viticulture, marketing, quality control, purchasing, etc. Viticulture and wine production (enology) The Republic of Macedonia is a country with long tradition in grape and wine production. Therefore, the main focuses of this program are grape production, grape products and enology. Beside the theoretical lectures, significant part of the learning processes is dedicated to practical aspects of viticulture and wine production. Processing of agricultural products - plant products Graduated students at this study program are provided with expertise and competence to work in the field of plant biotechnology, food engineering, nutrition, physico-chemical properties of raw plant materials for processing, the technology of food production of plant origin, as well as the safety and quality of food. Master's studies (two and four semesters) Plant biotechnology Modules: Field crop production; Vegetable and flower production; Fruit production; Wine production; Plant genetics and breeding; Field crops’ processing; Wine production; Production of alcoholic beverages. Doctoral studies (6 semesters) Plant biotechnology INSTITUTE FOR PLANT BIOTEHNOLOGY
