The Institute's teaching, research and applied work focus on growing plants and applying biotechnology in crop production. They cover field crop production, vegetable and flower growing, plant genetics and breeding, and agrometeorology. The study programmes address different technologies for producing field crops, tobacco, vegetables and flowers and their interaction with the environment, with particular emphasis on agroclimatic factors and biodiversity. Plant genetics focuses on the genetic variability of crops and the possibilities of improving their traits through breeding. Education and research in breeding and plant biotechnology are of strategic importance for strengthening the industry and its long-term competitiveness.
