Laboratory

Laboratory for Controlled Plant Growing

The laboratory is physically separate from the tissue culture laboratory and is equipped for growing plants under controlled indoor conditions. It allows precise regulation of light, temperature and humidity, using white and full-spectrum LED systems, as well as incubators with fully controlled conditions.

Analyses

  • growing plants under controlled light, temperature and humidity
  • seedling production
  • multiplication of plant material
  • acclimatisation of plants obtained through in vitro culture
  • experiments under controlled conditions
  • use of incubators for fully controlled experimental conditions
  • testing plant responses to different light regimes and light spectra
  • evaluation of germination, seedling growth, early development and plant establishment
  • controlled testing of plant responses to biotic and abiotic stress
  • screening genotypes at the seedling and early-growth stage
  • monitoring growth, development and stress response
  • evaluation of physiological and morphological responses under controlled conditions
  • preparing uniform plant material for phenotyping, molecular analyses, quality analyses, microscopy, cytogenetics and breeding
  • maintaining and propagating selected genotypes
  • evaluation of mutant lines under controlled conditions
  • early screening of indigenous populations, local varieties, commercial varieties, breeding lines, mutant lines, wild relatives and conserved samples
  • controlled testing of seedling vigour, adaptation, stress tolerance and growth dynamics
  • comparison of modern, traditional and historical viable plant material where germination or regeneration is possible
  • supporting breeding, mutation breeding, stress physiology, seed testing, conservation and experimental research that requires controlled light, temperature and humidity
