Institute of Agricultural Economics

Blurred close-up of documents and a ring binder

The Institute of Agricultural Economics was established in 1977 as the Institute of Economics and Organisation in Agriculture, although the economic aspects of agriculture had been part of the Faculty's study programmes and research since its founding. The institute introduced its own first-cycle study programme, “Agricultural Economics”, in the 2001/2002 academic year. It also teaches in the second-cycle study programme “Agricultural Economics and Rural Development” and in the third-cycle study programme “Agricultural Economics”. The institute's teaching and research are in the economics of agriculture. This includes economic theories and their application in agriculture and rural development, macro- and microeconomics, the productivity and profitability of agricultural production, agribusiness, agri-entrepreneurship, management, marketing, consumer behaviour, finance, agricultural policy and rural development. Besides teaching and research, the institute takes part in various national and international projects and in preparing national strategies, programmes and legislation for agriculture and rural development. During their studies, students develop analytical skills for solving economic problems in agricultural production and rural development.
