The Institute has several specialised laboratories equipped for physico-chemical, instrumental, botanical, microbiological and sensory analysis of food. In them, first-cycle students take practical classes and gain skills in modern analytical methods, while second- and third-cycle students carry out research in food quality and safety.

The Institute takes part in national and international research projects. Its results are presented at international scientific meetings and published in reputable scientific journals. International cooperation also enables study visits and mobility for teaching staff and students, improving their competences and strengthening links with the European Research Area.

Besides research and teaching, the Institute works with the food industry, the competent institutions and other stakeholders. This cooperation includes laboratory analyses, expert opinions, training and support in introducing food safety and quality systems in line with national and European regulations.
